One of the primary goals of The One Hundred Black Men of America is to heighten awareness of the health needs of African Americans and empowerment of the African American community to change their health status through health education. The Health & Wellness Committee of the Bay Area Chapter of 100 Black Men works closely with schools, community & faith organization, business and government agencies in developing health education programs in African American Communities in the Bay Area.

Urban Services YMCA of the East Bay is a YMCA without walls. They collaborate and partner within East Bay organizations to build diverse and accessible programs that provide services to community residents. These partnerships value, respect, and empower youth, families and communities.

Urban Services was designed around the YMCA's Total Health initiative. This initiative is a progressive health and wellness philosophy that empowers individuals to pave their own unique path to a healthier lifestyle by choosing how they participate in and achieve their health and wellness goals. The initiative shares the goals of Healthy People 2010. Through establishing critical community partnerships with organizations such as the 100 Black Men of the Bay Area they have been able to deliver programs and services to over 5,000 youth and families in the greater Oakland area.

Community Culinary Academy Chef Leslie James is spearheading an exciting nutrition program called the Community Culinary Academy. The long-term goal of the Community Culinary Academy is to help change the poor eating habits of African Americans by teaching them how to prepare delicious and nutritious meals.

This coalition of schools and community organizations is led by the Health & Wellness Committee of the 100 Black Men of the Bay Area. Ultimately, the coalition will work to develop strategies for expanding and sustaining the program to other schools in the Bay Area. The 100 and its community partners are actively working in various Bay Area communities to develop an infrastructure for healthy children.
